Chapter Seven

Five months later

“You’re going to hurt yourself,” Leslie said, handing him a cup of strong black coffee. Spike took the drink, sipping at the hot liquid.

“It’s fine.”

“It’s not fine. Tell him, Dusty. He’s going to end up in an accident or something, and you’re going to hurt yourself. The ride to wherever it is you go is starting to wear on you.”

Spike ran a hand across his face. He hated that she was right. Going to see Star every night, and then spending most of it making love to her before riding back home on little sleep, he was going to become a hazard.

“Why don’t you talk to her about moving here?” Piper asked. “It’s clearly serious between the two of you.”

He stared at his friend’s old lady, and took another sip of his hot coffee. They were all right. Something had to give, and he didn’t like the risks he was taking with his life anymore. He was tired, and had even fallen asleep the moment he parked up at the clubhouse.

“I need to go to sleep,” he said.

No one argued with him. Jesse and Dusty helped him upstairs to his room. Curling up in his sheets, he didn’t even bother to remove his clothes. All he wanted to do was sleep, and then he’d go and see Star again.

He loved that woman, and if it meant going without any sleep, he would do it.

Jesse held the cell phone up in his hand. “He’s completely passed out.”

Piper moved to his side. “What are you doing to do?”

“He needs to do something. There’s no way Spike can go on like this. He’s too tired, and when the club needs him, he’s too far away.”

“It’s time to bring this mystery woman to the clubhouse, and to see if she’s even good enough for our guy,” Dusty said.

“She could be anyone,” Piper said.

Jesse opened his friend’s phone and pulled up pictures. The woman that was saved as the main background was someone he had never met before. There were more pictures of the two of them together. He saw how happy his friend was and knew it was a lot more than just sex.

Spike was in love with this woman. Jesse showed the pictures to Piper. “We’ve got to help him,” she said.

Over the years Piper had become a big part of both clubs, and she knew how important it was for all of them to be at their best.

After a little digging in Spike’s phone, Jesse found the directions, and once John Rix had agreed to babysit, he and Piper climbed into his car, and headed toward the mystery girl that was keeping Spike awake at night.

The days were the worst. Star hated being without Spike. Every morning she would watch him get dressed and leave. He didn’t know she was wide awake, but she was. It broke her heart seeing him getting ready to leave, and what sucked the most was she didn’t know how to get him to stay.
